Field Engineer (Phoenix Area)

SolarCity is a fast growing solar installation company with operations expanding in Arizona. Based in Foster City, Ca, SolarCity combines quality solar power installations with energy efficiency to reduce the electricity costs of business and home owners.

We are currently looking for a Field Engineer to join our growing team.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION / PRIMARY PURPOSE:

To provide professional site auditing services to obtain and communicate the necessary technical data to the SolarCity design team for the preparation of permit ready documents needed to facilitate the installation of solar photovoltaic systems.

SECONDARY PURPOSE:

Functions as the project manager when assigned to do so.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
  • Function as the site auditor for SolarCity to meet with clients to obtain technical data necessary to complete the design documents for a photovoltaic system.
  • Develop a positive relationship with clients to include but not limited to providing facilities assessments.
  • Complete the physical site audit using the auditing tools, to include but not limited to, tablet PC, measuring devices, Solmetric equipment, digital camera and equipment/tools to obtain access to the site and electrical equipment.
  • Maintain a job photo log to include but not limited to pre-demolition/construction, progress photos and completed project photos.
  • Prepare the site audit documents as needed to coordinate with the SolarCity engineering department to produce permit ready documents.
  • Provide and maintain a current Arizona driver’s license to safely operate a company vehicle.
  • Develop relationships with design professionals and subcontractors to support the business activities.
QUALIFICATION STANDARDS:
  • Five (5) years progressive experience in the solar photo voltaic business with at least fifty completed installations.
  • High School or Trade School degree in a discipline related to construction or building sciences, engineering or architecture.
  • This position requires above average written and oral communications skills to prepare site audit documents conduct site audit meetings with the client.
  • Strong math skills.
  • Strong computer skills with the ability to perform word processing, spread sheets and data base management functions on a personal computer and/or laptop computer. Ability to learn SolarCity proprietary software.
  • The physical demands, to be discussed in the interview, must be met by the employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.
  • The employee must be able to lift and/or move a minimum of 50 pounds.
