Portola Valley is located in the hills above Silicon Valley, in California. The town has traditionally been a very environmentally conscious community. An example of this is Portola Valley Ranch, a planned community that was designed to incorporate and preserve the beautiful hills and oaks surrounding it.

Ted Driscoll is one of the original homeowners in Portola Valley Ranch; Ted chose the development because of its gorgeous natural surroundings. After living there for nearly 30 years, Ted decided to go solar. His roof was nearly perfect for it.

Naturally, the Portola Valley Ranch Homeowner’s Association was adamant about the aesthetics of the solar array. SolarCity was happy to work with the Association in order to create a design that was not only approved but also well-liked. Ultimately, SolarCity chose to incorporate the design of the house into the array. The array faces the front of the house, and is visible to the street. Neighbors have already commented that they think the addition of the solar array accentuates the design of the house.
