What is Solarize Mass-Boston

Solarize Mass-Boston is a community initiative of the Massachusetts Clean Energy Center and the Green Communities Division of the MA Department of Energy Resources, in partnership with the City of Boston, designed to bring competitively priced solar PV to homeowners in the Commonwealth.

How does the program work?

Solarize Mass-Boston makes it affordable and simple to make the switch to clean, solar energy. By leveraging the power of the community, Solarize Mass-Boston offers homeowners the best value price for a solar system. The Solarize Mass-Boston program allows qualified home owners to install solar systems with little or no upfront cost, and a monthly solar payment that can be less than what you are currently paying for electricity. There's never been a better time to go solar.

How long will it take to install my system after I sign up?

The first step is to request a free solar consultation and quote. Once you decide to install a system, SolarCity will conduct a site audit, design your system, and request a building permit. Once the building permit is received, SolarCity will install the solar system.

The system then must be inspected by the City of Boston, and subsequently by your utility company. Each step in the process takes several weeks, and the entire process typically takes about four to six months.

The length of time depends on the complexity of your roof and the number of panels that will be installed. The estimated installation time will be included in the design proposal presented to you by SolarCity.

Will solar work on my home?

We hope so! The two biggest factors are the amount of sunlight you get throughout the day and the amount of open roof space. We can give you a quick assessment by looking at satellite photos of your property.

If your roof looks good, we will schedule a follow-up free solar consultation where one of our experts will survey your site to evaluate if a solar power system will fit with your architecture and meet your energy needs.
