FOSTER CITY, Calif., June 19, 2008 – SolarCity, California’s No. 1 residential solar power company, received an inaugural Green Business Award from San Francisco Business Times, announced in the publication’s June 16 edition. SolarCity won the award in the “Solar Energy” category for its work to make solar affordable and accessible for more families.
“Our founding mission was to make solar a more realistic option for everyone by making it more affordable than traditional, polluting power sources,” said Lyndon Rive, CEO of SolarCity. “We are thrilled to be recognized by the San Francisco Business Times for giving consumers an easy, affordable way to adopt clean power.”
The San Francisco Business Times Green Business Awards recognize businesses that have integrated an exceptionally high degree of sustainability into their operations. A panel of expert judges selected winners in 14 categories out of 200 nominations.
In April, SolarCity announced the first-ever installer-led residential solar leasing option, which offers homeowners an affordable way to go solar and adds exclusive benefits not available with cash purchases. Shortly after the introduction of SolarLease, SolarCity introduced $0-down financing to the majority of its California service areas until the end of July. This unprecedented financing option eliminates the large upfront costs that have prevented many homeowners from installing solar in the past, and can allow residents start saving money on their electricity bills from day one.
