SAN MATEO, Calif. – SolarCity (NASDAQ: SCTY) is proud to announce that the company’s fleet operations director Nikith Rajendran was named winner of the 2016 Fleet Safety Award during this week’s Fleet Safety Conference in Schaumburg, Illinois. The Fleet Safety award, co-sponsored by Bobit Business Media, publisher of Automotive Fleet magazine, and the American Automotive Leasing Association (AALA), honors individuals who have demonstrated exemplary leadership, innovation and measurable results in enhancing the safety of their fleet drivers, those travelling with them and the general public.
The fleet team is responsible for managing SolarCity’s fleet of approximately 4,000 vehicles, including sales cars and box trucks for installation crews, with the fleet having grown significantly from a size of more than 500 vehicles in 2013 to what it is today. The fleet team has rolled out an enhanced driver policy to the company’s drivers, resulting in improved safe driving behavior and a reduced incident rate. The team has also focused on ensuring safe vehicle operation by initiating projects in the areas of vehicle safety, onsite maintenance and electronic driver vehicle inspection reporting.
Additionally, SolarCity’s fleet team oversees the company’s driver programs, with over 2,300 Department of Transportation (DOT) qualified drivers as well as safety and compliance training for all SolarCity drivers. SolarCity consistently maintains an excellent Federal Motor Carrier Safety (FMCSA) accident safety record, even with large vehicle growth and an increase in DOT qualified drivers.
In April, the SolarCity fleet team was also awarded Outstanding Achievement in Corporate Fleet Management by the North American Fleet Association’s 2016 Fleet Excellence Awards.
