CLARKSBURG, MD., - SolarCity® (NASDAQ: SCTY) is expanding its Maryland presence with a new 11,000 square foot Montgomery County operations center in Clarksburg. The new operations center—SolarCity's fourth in Maryland—brings solar job growth to the area with the company immediately looking to fill positions for installers, sales and support staff. This latest expansion pushes SolarCity’s total Maryland staffing to more than 450 people.
“SolarCity is a Montgomery County business success story,” said County Executive Ike Leggett. “They have capitalized on the development of innovative solar technologies and are well positioned to support the County as we roll out our solar energy program across several of our facilities in the coming months.”
SolarCity makes it possible for many Maryland homeowners to go solar with no upfront cost and immediately pay less for solar electricity than they pay for utility power. Last month, the company rolled out its MyPower solar loan in Maryland for the first time, making it possible for Maryland homeowners to pay less to go solar than they pay for utility bills with the benefits of owning their systems.
Most of the local jobs created with this expansion will be in solar installation—the fastest growing solar jobs sector in the country . There are approximately 50 staff working out of the new operations center today and when fully staffed, it will employ in excess of 100.
