New Wilmington Operations Center to Meet Increased Solar Demand; Expansion Brings New Jobs to Area
SolarCity Expands Massachusetts Operations to North Shore
Aug 20, 2014

WILMINGTON, Mass., - SolarCity® (Nasdaq:SCTY) is expanding its Massachusetts operations with a new 10,000 square foot North Shore Operations Center in Wilmington. The new operations center— SolarCity's third in Massachusetts—brings new jobs to the area and allows the company to keep pace with growing solar demand in the northeastern part of the state.

SolarCity, the nation's #1 solar power provider, makes it possible for many Massachusetts homeowners to install solar panels for free and pay less for solar electricity than they pay for electricity from the local utility. SolarCity can install solar for MA residents for no money out of pocket and show immediate savings. This includes design, installation, monitoring, insurance, and a performance guarantee.

Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick and the state legislature have championed the growth of the solar industry in Massachusetts. The passing of the Green Communities Act, the Global Warming Solutions Act and the Green Jobs Act in 2008 set the framework for Massachusetts energy policies that have helped to spur the rapid growth in the Massachusetts solar marketplace.

The expansion means a significant number of new jobs for the area. SolarCity currently has more than 50 open positions for the new facility and 100 open positions across the state. Open positions include installers, sales representatives, electricians and engineers. This is the company’s second expansion in the state over the last six months. SolarCity now employs more than 255 staff in Massachusetts alone and more than 7,000 nationwide.

Candidates interested in employment opportunities can contact SolarCity via its online jobs form at www.solarcity.com/jobs.

Homeowners in Massachusetts who are interested in SolarCity's services can contact the company directly at 1-888-SOL-CITY (1-888-765-2489) for a free, no-obligation solar consultation or visit SolarCity online at www.solarcity.com/request.

State officials welcomed the announcement:

Secretary Maeve Vallely Bartlett, Energy and Environmental Affairs: “The Massachusetts solar industry is growing by leaps and bounds, and this facility is yet another brick and mortar example. The continued growth of solar here in the Commonwealth shows that our investments in clean energy provide not just environmental benefits, but economic ones, as well.”

Massachusetts Clean Energy Center (MassCEC) CEO Alicia Barton: “With more than 8,400 workers, the solar industry is truly booming in Massachusetts. Over the last several years, Massachusetts residents and business owners have enthusiastically embraced the benefits of solar energy, making this the perfect place for companies like SolarCity to grow their business.”
