Sharon Heckel
Oct 21, 2015

SAN MATEO, Calif. – SolarCity (NASDAQ: SCTY) is pleased to announce that Vice President of People Empowerment Sharon Heckel has received one of the California Diversity Council’s 2015 Most Powerful and Influential Women Awards. Heckel was among 13 fellow recipients honored on October 1 at the Inaugural Northern California Diversity and Leadership Conference in San Francisco who have achieved personal success while personifying the principles of diversity and leadership in their workplace.

The 2015 Most Powerful and Influential Women award recognizes women who demonstrate outstanding leadership, commitment to professional excellence and high ethical standards and dedication to their community. Winners exhibit the ability to sustain a record of accomplishments and contributions throughout the scope of their careers, as well as maintain clout within their company for having significant impact on revenues, profitability or direction of the organization.

Prior to joining SolarCity in July 2015, Heckel worked for Kaiser Permanente, IBM and Abbott Laboratories.  At Kaiser Permanente, an organization of 175,000 employees, Heckel was Vice President of Organizational Effectiveness.  During her seven-year tenure, Heckel was a member of the Human Resources Leadership Team and oversaw an organization of 200 employees with an annual operating and investment budget of over $50 million. In her 11 years at IBM, Heckel was part of the Business Consulting Services division, where she rose through the ranks from a front-line consultant to the Partner and Executive level in the organization. At Abbott Laboratories, she was a Regional Human Resources Manager in the company’s Diagnostic Products division.

Heckel holds an MBA from Northwestern’s Kellogg School of Management and is on the Executive Board of Directors for Woodminster Theater in Oakland.

“It is important for women to be represented in every role and at every level within an organization, to bring the diversity of thought and perspective needed to help a company grow and thrive,” said Heckel. “Companies such as SolarCity that embrace and celebrate diversity are able to attract and retain talented, passionate individuals who greatly contribute to the overall success of the organization.”

The California Diversity Council is part of the National Diversity Council, a nonprofit organization that brings together the private, public and nonprofit sectors to discuss the many dimensions and benefits of a multicultural environment. The National Diversity Council aims to cultivate a nationwide network of affiliated councils to advance diversity and inclusion by transforming work places and communities into inclusive environments where individuals are valued for their talents and empowered to reach their fullest potential.
