Senior Mechanical Engineer

SolarCity is seeking an experienced mechanical engineer to lead the development of innovative photovoltaic mounting systems that decrease parts and labor costs, increase installation throughout, while improving aesthetics and durability.
Responsibilities
  • Perform mechanical, structural, seismic, and wind-load analysis on PV mounting systems and components
  • Prepare detailed part and assembly designs in SolidWorks
  • Prepare detailed design documentation including dimensioned part drawings, bills of materials, assembly procedures, and test and Q/A procedures
  • Manage prototyping, testing, and design revisions
  • Identify and secure required certifications, marks, and regulatory approvals
  • Select optimal materials and production processes to minimize lifetime system costs
  • Select  and work with suppliers, fabricators, tooling companies, and vendors
Requirements
  • BS in Mechanical Engineering or other relevant engineering discipline
  • 5 years of CAD and mechanical design experience
  • Deep knowledge of SolidWorks
  • Experience in a metal forming manufacturing methods (sheet metal, extrusions, castings, machining
Additional Information
Desirable but not necessary:
  • Experience designing mounting hardware for photovoltaic systems
  • Hands on-experience in metal fabrication
  • Experience designing injection molded plastic parts
