Bill and Bonnie Broyles recently moved down to Carmel Valley for its slower pace of life. The last thing they wanted to worry about was rising utility costs. To lock in their electrical rates, they decided to invest in a solar electric system.

Carmel Valley residents are very aesthetically minded, and the Broyles are no exception. Their house is very attractive, and they were afraid that adding solar electric panels might detract from the design.

After careful thought and a thorough design consultation, SolarCity's design engineers decided that the best approach would be a dark-framed module with a geometric-shaped array to help the modules blend into the dark comp-shingle roof. SolarCity also modified the mounting hardware to create a lower standing array, keeping the modules as close to the plane of the roof as possible.

The result is a solar array that blends in so well that Bill and Bonnie find themselves having to point it out to visiting friends.
